I earned my Ph.D. in organic synthesis from IIT Kanpur, India, with a focus on utilizing triarylbismuth organometallic reagents for the total synthesis of biologically significant natural compounds. During this period, I developed innovative Pd-catalyzed methodology reactions to form C-C and C-N bonds, applying them in the synthesis of crucial molecular frameworks using triaryl bismuth reagents. I actively engaged in the synthesis of various triarylbismuth reagents through aryl Grignard and aryl lithium routes, subsequently purifying them using column chromatography and trituration methods.
My extensive expertise in synthesizing target natural products using linear, convergent, and divergent synthetic approaches, coupled with my ability to strategically plan late-stage key steps, significantly contributed to the success of my graduate thesis. Following this, I joined Dr. Stockdill's research group at Wayne State University, USA, as a post-doctoral scholar in 2018. During this tenure, I focused on alkaloid natural products and peptide-based biologically relevant compounds, specializing in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) techniques. This allowed me to synthesize and purify both short and long peptides, enhancing my optimization, synthesis, and characterization skills, particularly in peptide chemistry. I started as a senior research scientist at the same university in 2022.
Throughout my academic journey, I gained extensive experience in analyzing and characterizing a wide range of small and large molecules using techniques such as NMR (1H, 13C, 1D, 2D) spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas
Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS). I have developed proficiency in utilizing peptide synthesizers, adept at operating manual, semi-automated, and fully automated systems, employing both microwave and traditional heating methods, thus refining my skills.
Moreover, my experience in mentoring first and second-year students, as well as undergraduate students, during both my graduate and post-doctoral studies has allowed me to develop strong mentoring skills, fostering analytical thinking among my mentees. With a proven track record in managing multiple projects, organizational abilities, and collaborative work with diverse
scientists, I am well-prepared to handle various aspects of any project. Currently, I serve as a co-investigator in the NIEHS grant "Synthesis and quantitation of microcystins and anabaenopeptins in the Great Lakes region to establish human exposure risks via ingestion and inhalation" and actively contribute as a peer reviewer in my field of expertise. I am an editorial member in the American Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry.
