Eyyup Ensar Başakın was born on June 12, 1991, in Erzincan, Turkey. He embarked on his academic career at Erzincan University, the university of his hometown, where he completed his undergraduate education. He then pursued his master's degree at Istanbul Technical University (ITU).
From the outset of his academic career, Başakın chose to specialize in areas such as machine learning, hydrology, drought, water resources, time series analysis, and fuzzy logic. Başakın began working as a research assistant at Istanbul Technical University in 2018, continuing his academic work and research there.
During this period, he made significant contributions, especially in the management of water resources, drought analysis, and the adaptation of machine learning techniques to hydrological applications. Başakın has also been quite productive in terms of academic publications, contributing 34 articles and 17 conference papers to the scientific community to date.
These works are particularly important for developing and applying new methodologies in the fields of machine learning and hydrology. Between 2023 and 2024, Başakın added an international dimension to his academic endeavours by working as a visiting researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) in the United States. During this time, he worked on new research methodologies related to his areas of expertise and developed international collaborations in these fields.
